COVID-19 Update: Effective 1st July 2020

Dear Members and Players,
We hope that you have been keeping well over the lockdown period, and are looking forward to returning to court ASAP!

The Griffith Tennis Club is continuing to follow the Community Tennis Guidelines provided by Tennis NSW:

Effective July Ist:

The NSW Government has issued a new Public Health Order (PHO), in which it has given
specific directions in relation to community sporting activities. Pursuant to the PHO:

  • Where community sporting activities (including training sessions) involve more
    than 20 participants, the organiser of those activities must have a COVID-19
    Safety Plan;
  • “Participants” include players, people who are training, officials and spectators;
    and;
  • The maximum number of participants at a community sporting event must not
    exceed 500

The Government maintains its direction that occupiers of premises must ensure that there is at least
4 square metres of space for each person on the premises.

At this stage, as an outdoor event, and due to the smaller numbers (< 20) for our Winter Social Competition, no changes to our current operating procedures are required. We expect players to observe social distancing, and follow this checklist before you play:

Stay at home if you:

  • Have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • Have been overseas or exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • Have flu-like symptoms
  • If you are in a high risk health category

Thank you for your cooperation, and continued support!

Under significant consideration of Government and Tennis Australia recommendations, the Griffith Tennis Club has made the decision to cancel ALL competitions until the end of April school holidays (27th April). As we approach this date, a decision will be made regarding the remainder of the season.
All coaching has been cancelled until the end of the April School holidays also.

100th MIA Open – help us make it the best yet!

Dear Members, Players and their families, past and present,

2020 will mark the 100th year of Griffith’s longest running sporting event, the MIA Open Tennis Tournament.
The tournament began in 1920, and has run every year since – we’d like to celebrate this Milestone year by remembering the tournament’s rich history, acknowledge the importance and contribution that events like this have in a community, and of course by making the 2020 MIA Open the best yet!

We are inviting anyone who is interested in participating in the planning and organisation of the event to join us for the:

Initial Event Planning meeting
When: 8pm Tuesday 11th February
Where: Griffith Tennis Clubhouse – Noorilla St

We are also inviting anyone who has memorabilia of past events to please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you!
Contact: Robyn Meehan 0429 487 472, or
Email: info@griffithtennisclub.com.au

Please share this with anyone you think may be interested!

With thanks,
The Griffith Tennis Club

Sam came, served rockets, coached, gave insights into his career, and the state of tennis in general… then left us crying into our broken strings wanting more 🙁

A huge thanks to everyone who attended, Danny Dossetor for organising the evening, the Griffith Tennis Club Committee for all the food, and Tennis NSW for all the assistance.
