2014 May AMT Information Supplement

About the Australian Money Tournament series

The Australian Money Tournaments are a semi-professional series of 186 events that run annually across Australia. Tennis Australia introduced the initiative in 2006 to provide a points based tournament series to aid players with the transition from amateur to pro competition.

Griffith Tennis Club got involved with the AMT initiative in 2010, running an annual May tournament.

Since 2013, the club has combined the May AMT with a national junior tournament, called the Medibank Junior Development Series (MJDS). The MJDS tournaments are targeted at Juniors aged 11-17, introducing them to a series of regular tournaments played around the country, throughout the course of the year.

Popularity

These tournaments are extremely popular among the tennis community. Despite our relatively remote location, we still see (approximately) 100 entrants each year for the AMT, and 70 entrants in the MJDS, providing great opportunities for local players to get exposure to city, and interstate players, also providing the out-of-towners with exposure to our rare high quality clay/loam court surfaces.

Over the course of the 4 day long AMT, the players, their families and friends pass through the gates of the Griffith Tennis Club, bringing a huge amount of exposure to Griffith, cash injection into the local hospitality industry, and most importantly driving the interest and uptake of tennis in Griffith, at one of the oldest sporting clubs in the area.

Past tournaments have run with no sponsorship support, managed by the GTC volunteer committee, and some support from Tennis NSW. There are significant monetary costs associated with running these annual tournaments, including Prize Money, Staff (Umpires, Management and Physio), and equipment, as well as major time commitments by the committee members. While the volunteer enthusiasm and dedication is unmatched by any other tournament, the May AMT still operates on a break-even basis.

 Sponsorship Opportunities

For 2014, we are offering a rare opportunity for Griffith business to get involved as a major, and potentially ongoing, Sponsor for the May AMT Tournament at Griffith Tennis Club. There are several significant business exposure possibilities:

  • Local tournament naming – 2014 <Business Name> Gold AMT Tennis Tournament at Griffith Tennis Club
